How To Set Up Squarespace Google Analytics

Setting up Google Analytics for your Squarespace site is very easy with their pre-made integration as part of your account. All you will need to do is to sign up for a Google Analytics account, grab your measurement ID number and enter it into your Squarespace advanced settings under the API Keys section.

PSST: We have other Squarespace SEO tutorials on the blog too such as how to write great meta descriptions.

How to set up your Google Analytics account

You can use Squarespace’s built-in integration to connect your site to Google Analytics for visitor tracking and other reporting. First, you will need to sign up for a Google Analytics account. At this point in time, you should sign up for a Google Analytics 4 account and not a Universal Analytics account (Universal Analytics accounts will expire in the summer of 2023).

You will need to get your ‘measurement ID’ number from your Google account. Ideally, you should have a GA4 (Google Analytics 4) account set up, but in either instance, the ‘measurement ID’ number will either start with a ‘UA-xxxxx’ for Universal Analytics or a ‘G-xxxxx’ for GA4.

To find your measurement ID, log into your Google Analytics account, and click the ‘Admin’ settings icon (a little gear) at the bottom of the left-hand panel. You can see your ‘measurement ID’ number at the top of the property settings menu, or by clicking the ‘data streams’ menu option.

If you’re using Google Analytics to track conversions for your eCommerce store, Squarespace sends the following information to Google Analytics for every received order:

  • Order ID

  • Your store name

  • Purchase total (includes shipping)

  • Customer’s city, region, and country

  • Product name

  • SKU

Can I hire someone to do this for me?

Yes! If this is something you would like us to do for you it is fairly affordable! A basic Squarespace and Google Analytics set-up is $200+ and you can book a call to make sure we can understand your needs and it is a good fit.
